Competencies - Technician is able to:

1
Conduct inspection and testing in conformance with applicable codes.
2
Clean all components of the kitchen exhaust system.
3
Ability to use a variety of tools and equipment.
4
Test the pH of effluent.
5
Conduct air flow readings
6
Understand the requirements for transporting dangerous goods.
7
Operate a portable fire extinguisher.
8
Prepare clear and accurate inspection and test reports.
9
Communicate clearly with the owner or authorized agent.
10
Communicate clearly with the authority having jurisdiction.

Performance factors - The technician is able to:

1
Understand and conduct all inspection and testing in conformance with the applicable code requirements.
2
Clean all components of the kitchen exhaust systems in accordance with NFPA standards and applicable local bylaws.
3
Operate and use a variety of tools and equipment such as, but not limited to, power washers, ladders, volumeter, and electrical equipment.
4
Test the pH of effluent created during the cleaning process, to comply with environment waste water policies and local bylaws.
5
Conduct tests to determine if the airflow is consistent with the design standard.
6
Transport and handle dangerous chemicals such as caustic soda and effluent in the appropriate manner.
7
Select a portable fire extinguisher for the appropriate hazard and know how to use it effectively.
8
Prepare clear and accurate inspection and test reports and maintain for the authority having jurisdiction.
9
Communicate with the owner or authorized agent and make recommendations for deficiencies that need to be rectified.
10
Communicate clearly with the authority having jurisdiction and advise him of any problems or unsafe conditions in the building.
