Competencies - Technician is able to:

1
Conduct inspection and testing in conformance with applicable codes.
2
Conduct an inspection of "Unit equipment for emergency lighting" main components
3
Conduct an inspection of "Unit equipment for emergency lighting" field components.
4
Conduct a test of the "Unit equipment for emergency lighting".
5
Conduct a test of the charging conditions.
6
Prepare clear and accurate inspection and test reports.
7
Communicate clearly with the owner or authorized agent.
8
Communicate clearly with the authority having jurisdiction.

Performance factors - The technician is able to:

1
Understand and conduct all inspection and testing in conformance with the applicable code requirements.
2
Conduct and inspection of the main components such as, but not limited to, AC power "on" light, battery leads and terminals, battery water level and test "float" voltage before simulating a power failure.
3
Conduct and inspection of the field components such as, but not limited to, remote heads and conductors for any physical damage or misplacement.
4
Conduct a test of the unit to ensure it will provide emergency lighting for a duration equal to the design criterion under simulated power failure conditions.
5
Conduct a test to ensure the charging conditions for voltage and current and the recovery period is functioning.
6
Prepare clear and accurate inspection and test reports and maintain records for the authority having jurisdiction.
7
Communicate with the owner or authorized agent and make recommendations for deficiencies that need to be rectified.
8
Communicate clearly with the authority having jurisdiction and advise him of any problems or unsafe condition in the building.
